Italy's Distribution Market: Navigating an Uneven Q2 Recovery

Italian ICT distribution achieved a striking recovery in Q2 2026 after several quarters of stagnation. The distribution channel returned to positive territory with a growth of 9% YoY. That led to a YoY growth of +4% in the first part of the year. Yet, beneath this optimism boost, lies an uneven landscape shaped by price spikes and a stark divide between commercial resilience and consumer shifts.

After a slower pace seen in May (+4% YoY growth), June brought an unexpected rally with an 11% surge, comfortably outperforming the 2025 baseline. This expansion was primarily driven by the business channels, now accounting for 74% of total distribution sales. Within this, the small and medium reseller channel finally reversed its previous negative trend, and the corporate reseller channel recorded an impressive 13% leap for the quarter.

The marked shift in the Italian distribution market from a volume market to a value market continued in Q2 2026. The value segment increased by 19% YoY in Q2 2026, representing 45% of distribution sales. Infrastructure and digitalization projects led, with server revenue peaking at 122% in the second quarter of 2026, along with a 51% increase for data management software and almost 20% growth for cybersecurity. Meanwhile, the volume market performance was mixed: notebooks grew by 15% and tablet PCs by 9%, while smartphones, printer consumables, and AV systems declined.

Ultimately, the force driving this Q2 revenue surge was the steep ASP escalation driven by massive price hikes, most notably a jump exceeding 300% in RAM, 179% in servers, and 141% in SSDs. Resellers buying inventory early to front-run these increases, alongside delayed order fulfilments from early spring and major public sector tenders, further concentrated revenue into June.

As we look ahead to the second half of the year, there is still a lot of uncertainty, with rising ASPs, warehouses full of higher-price products, resellers who have already made advance purchases, persistent supply-chain uncertainties, and the upcoming Italian summer break. Nonetheless, while a short-term deceleration appears likely, the Italian distribution market is expected to remain in positive territory in 2026.
