17 October 2016 (London, UK): Revenues from sales of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) solid-state disk drives (SSDs) through Western European distribution channels in September 2016 have again exceeded revenues from OEM hard disk drives (HDDs) reports CONTEXT, the IT market research company.
This follows a similar performance in July 2016, and confirms SSDs as the leading storage technology in the dedicated storage market for the third calendar quarter as large enterprise customers use them to replace HDDs.
Sales of SSDs to enterprise customers in Western Europe grew by +43.2% year-on-year in September 2016, while sales of dedicated storage HDDs declined by -37.7%.
As adoption rates increase, SSD prices are coming down according to CONTEXT data. For example, in one of the largest SSD sectors – 3.84TB SSDs, which account for 48.6% of revenues – average selling prices (ASPs) have dropped by -48.2% year-on-year, from EUR 7,218.93 in September 2015 to EUR 3,741.39 in September 2016.
