9 May 2008 – ADSL2+ Network Routers represented 21% of the total router market in distribution in March 2008, according to data released today by Context, covering distribution sales only, for France, Germany and the UK (see Chart 1). Of the three countries, France was the one with the highest penetration of ADSL2+ in March, with 28% of overall router sales. Germany followed with 25% whereas the UK registered 15%. In the whole of Q1 2008, on share of ADSL2+ routers was 21% on average, slightly down sequentially from 22% registered in Q4 2007 in the three countries.
In the UK market, Netgear's DG834N was the best selling ADSL2+ based network router in the first three months of 2008 (confirming the position already held in Q4 2007 in this category). In second position was the D-Link DSL-924, followed by another Netgear product, the DGB111G. However, while both these routers are compatible with the WiFi b/g protocol, the Netgear DF834N is compatible with WiFi b/g/n and features a 270Mbps speed. In fourth and fifth positions were the AG241 and the WAG325N, both by Linksys (see Table 1).
When taking sales for all three countries into account, the three best-selling ADSL2+ routers in Q1 2008 were all AVM products (only sold in the German market), the FRITZ!Box 3170, FRITZ!Box 7170 and FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7270, followed by Netgear's DG834N and D-Link's DSL-924 in fourth and fifth positions respectively (see Table 2).
