31 July 2008 – The best-selling Hard Disk Drive (HDD) capacity in the 3.5-inch internal HDD space, specifically for SATA-150 and SATA-300 drives featuring 7200rpm speed, was still 500GB in June 2008, with 24% share, widening the gap with 250GB in second position with 21%, according to data released today by Context, covering distribution sales for France, Germany and the UK.
A significant market share increase was registered by 1000GB speed, which doubled market share sequentially in June, when it reached 8% compared to 4% in May.
When analysed quarterly, 500GB and 250GB shared the top slot in this product category in Q208, with 24% (compared to 21% and 23% in Q108, respectively), whereas 160GB remained in third position but declining in market share from 20% in Q1 to 18% in Q208.
